The Case Concerning the J-VID-18 Pandemic

The United Republic of Aprepluya (Applicant) and the Democratic State of Ranovstayo (Respondent) appeared before the International Court of Justice to settle their differences concerning the J-VID-18 Pandemic.

The case concerned a global pandemic and the obligations and responses of States with response to the outbreak. It also involved questions of the jurisdiction of the Court, a claim for political asylum, and State responsibility for shooting down a civilian aircraft.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the 2021 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition took place virtually, and for the first time ever, every team participating in the Jessup Competition had the opportunity to face international opponents as they competed for the White & Case Jessup Cup. in the first Jessup Global Rounds.

The 19th edition of the Italian National Rounds also took place virtually, in a non-qualifying format.
